On a Whim!!

Last Thursday the kids and I were sitting on my bed, and Teague ask, "Mom, can we go to the zoo?" So....about an hour and a half later we were there. We have a family pass, so it was okay.
Every year, Utah's Hogle Zoo has something different and special. This year, it is The Ghost of the Bayou. A rare white alligator.

Also the previous week a baby Colobus monkey was born, so we were lucky enough to see it.

Hogle Zoo has definitely had it's problems through the years, but I have to give them credit for the past few years, they are really trying to make it a better place for the animals. In recent years, they have introduced Elephant Encounters and Asian Highlands. They are truly wonderful exhibits. And rumor has it, they are working on a Polar Bear exhibit. In the Spring of 2008 there is going to be a new carousel, which doesn't help the animals much, but I am sure it will help the zoo.

When we got to the zoo, the first thing we did was go on the train. WAHOO, the kidlets love it, however, the train goes pretty fast and you can't understand a word that the engineer is saying, so you don't really know what is going on, but I guess if the kidlets love it, that is all that matters. Then we ate some lunch. On our way to see the baby colobus, we stopped and looked at the Turkeys (what a strange bird.)As we were trying to see the new baby colobus monkey (which we didn't see that time), Aaron called and decided to meet us there! We were such an excited little family to have daddy join us! Aaron actually started classes for this semester that night, so it was really a sweet surprise. We worked our way through most of the zoo, there were only a couple of things that we didn't see, and we decided to go back to see if we could get a look at the monkey. And we did! It was sooooo cute! I got a couple of pictures, but they didn't turn out because the monkeys were behind the glass and up against the far wall, but don't worry, you will see some good pictures of it soon enough.

Aaron wanted to get some Kettle Corn on the way out, but unfortunately, the booth had closed by the time we got there. The kidlets and I said goodbye to Daddy and he went to school. We went to the gift shop and I told them that they could each get one thing that was $5.00 or less. Piper got a little stuffed Lion that was $3.50, and Teague got a tube full of animals for $5.00. With our 20% Zoo membership discount, it worked out to be relatively inexpensive, then we headed home! Actually, since Aaron had class that night, Maamaa had made us dinner, so we headed to her house for Chicken and Baked Potatoes. Moms are the greatest.
