Mom's house

Last Saturday, my mom had the whole family over for lunch to celebrate the August birthdays. Unfortunately, Jordan (an August birthday) couldn't make it because he had just started a new job and had to do inventory. Also, Jaffa (another August birthday) lives back east, so she wasn't there. But....Miriam, my sister-in-law, wife to Drew and Mom to Jaffa was there, and she too has an August Birthday.

Some other people that were unable to make it were: Vanessa, Drew's daughter, she had to work. All of Jordan's family (Valyn, Keenan, Channing, Schuyler & Brighton), they live in Saratoga Springs, so, since Jordan didn't come that's kind of a long drive. And Kourtney, Matthew's oldest daughter, was doing a fundraiser car wash for debate.

But everyone else was there, that made 17 of us. When my family gets together, it is LOUD, no matter who is there, or how many of us there are. We are just naturally LOUD people. Poor Aaron has to take something before we go, because he always leaves with a headache.

Anyway, mom had made some sandwiches on french bread, and everyone (except us) brought a salad. There were chips too along with all my mom's specialties: Pickled Carrots (YUMMERS), olives, danish pickles etc.

Before we ate, Matthew's boys (Reagan and Logan) and my kidlets were outside looking at a grasshopper and I captured these pictures.

After we ate, Teague was throwing rotten apples into the creek. Apparently Dad didn't spray the tree this year, so they are all bad, but it is okay, because the deer will come down and eat them. But I got this great picture of Teague jumping to pull an apple off of the tree and then him throwing it into the creek.

Oh the joys of being 4!

On a Whim!!

Last Thursday the kids and I were sitting on my bed, and Teague ask, "Mom, can we go to the zoo?" So....about an hour and a half later we were there. We have a family pass, so it was okay.
Every year, Utah's Hogle Zoo has something different and special. This year, it is The Ghost of the Bayou. A rare white alligator.

Also the previous week a baby Colobus monkey was born, so we were lucky enough to see it.

Hogle Zoo has definitely had it's problems through the years, but I have to give them credit for the past few years, they are really trying to make it a better place for the animals. In recent years, they have introduced Elephant Encounters and Asian Highlands. They are truly wonderful exhibits. And rumor has it, they are working on a Polar Bear exhibit. In the Spring of 2008 there is going to be a new carousel, which doesn't help the animals much, but I am sure it will help the zoo.

When we got to the zoo, the first thing we did was go on the train. WAHOO, the kidlets love it, however, the train goes pretty fast and you can't understand a word that the engineer is saying, so you don't really know what is going on, but I guess if the kidlets love it, that is all that matters. Then we ate some lunch. On our way to see the baby colobus, we stopped and looked at the Turkeys (what a strange bird.)As we were trying to see the new baby colobus monkey (which we didn't see that time), Aaron called and decided to meet us there! We were such an excited little family to have daddy join us! Aaron actually started classes for this semester that night, so it was really a sweet surprise. We worked our way through most of the zoo, there were only a couple of things that we didn't see, and we decided to go back to see if we could get a look at the monkey. And we did! It was sooooo cute! I got a couple of pictures, but they didn't turn out because the monkeys were behind the glass and up against the far wall, but don't worry, you will see some good pictures of it soon enough.

Aaron wanted to get some Kettle Corn on the way out, but unfortunately, the booth had closed by the time we got there. The kidlets and I said goodbye to Daddy and he went to school. We went to the gift shop and I told them that they could each get one thing that was $5.00 or less. Piper got a little stuffed Lion that was $3.50, and Teague got a tube full of animals for $5.00. With our 20% Zoo membership discount, it worked out to be relatively inexpensive, then we headed home! Actually, since Aaron had class that night, Maamaa had made us dinner, so we headed to her house for Chicken and Baked Potatoes. Moms are the greatest.

Farmers Market

A couple of Saturdays ago, we decided to go to the Farmers Market at Pioneer Park in downtown Salt Lake then to lunch at Caputo's.

I only got a couple of pictures, but they are cute! We got some blackberries that were very yummy. Aaron got a crenshaw that was also delicious and a couple of cantaloupes. We also picked up a watermelon for my dad. (pictured with the kidlets)

Caputo's was also wonderful. I got a caprese salad, and you all know how much I love my tomatoes and mozzarella. Only one word to sum it up....YUM! I recommend this fun little Italian deli to anyone who loves Italian deli stuff.

Theatre School Performance

For the performance day, Piper's class was ask to dress up like what wanted to be when they grow up, Piper dressed like an artist. We got one of Aaron's old dress shirts and spattered it with paint and she wore her tidied tank top and her pink converse high tops, that seemed pretty artsy. She actually had a paintbrush and a pallet, but she didn't use it during the performance.
Instead of doing "Rainbow Goblins," they did "Imagine a Day."
Piper's part was this:

"Imagine a day when autumn is a yellow canopy above you, a burnt orange carpet underneath, a road you have never ridden on before".

She nailed it, I was such a proud mom. Her musical number was from "The Lion King," her class sang, "I just can't wait to be King!"agian, she nailed it. Some of the other songs were: "Everybody wants to be a Cat"from "The Aristocats," "Mama, I'm a Big Girl Now!" from "Hairspray" and "We're All in This Together" from "High School Musical."Then of course at the end, they sang the Theatre School theme song which is a totally different song than it was when I went.

When the kids were all done, we all went out to the foyer and exchanged phone numbers and took pictures and such.

Grammie Annie, Aunt Angela, Seth and Maamaa came to support Piper along with Teague, Aaron and I. Afterwards, Maamaa took our little family to "The Pie" for lunch, unfortunately Grammie Annie, Angela and Seth weren't able to join us.

The Pie is a whole different story in and of itself. My name is on that wall at least a dozen times, but nowhere to be seen because so many other names are finally on top of it. I also remember a year when TSFY students were ban from eating there! FUNNY. Memories.

Anyway, a very good day. One of those days when I too almost burst into song.

Let's start with

The Park City Kimball Arts Festival. Again, this is a Salazar family tradition (I know we have a lot, but that's a good thing...right?) After driving around for what seemed like forever trying to find a free parking space, we finally found one, we had a bit of a walk but that's okay, it wasn't too hot, but it was up hill (both ways).

We started at the bottom on one side, went to the top, and back down the other side. Halfway down the other side we stopped for lunch at Main Street Pizza and Noodle. Overpriced, but oh so good.

Again, Teague is the only one that left with out a treat! What a strange child, he didn't want anything. Piper and I each got a pair of earrings from an artist that is there every year. Her company is called Eye Candy Jewelry. This year, I got a black and clear swirled pair of "Life saver" earrings and Piper got yellow ones. Two years ago, I got orange ones, and Piper got red ones. But we actually share all four pair. Aaron actually got a T-shirt from a shop on Main Street called Chester's Black Smith Shop.

Both kidlets really wanted to go to the kids section and do something, I told them that couldn't get their faces painted. They never seem to look good and the kidlets seem to complain about how hot and itchy it is. So, they made some pet rocks. Teague named his "Rockish" because every rock is named Rockish, which was later changed to "Super Rockish" because we made a cape for him. Piper named hers "Ruby." I don't know why.I think the kidlets got a business card from nearly every artist exhibit, they did it last year too, so I have combine all the cards and have them in a baggie.

Anyway, it really was a perfect day! The weather was wonderful, slightly overcast, with a drop or two of rain, and a temperature around 85 or so. And the kidlets, bless their little hearts were well behaved even after all the walking. The only downside of the afternoon was that our friend Marla was not there. She wasn't at anything this year, I hope all is well with her.

WOW!

Sorry I have been a total slacker on the blogging!

Unfortunately, I haven't been feeling very well, so I haven't felt like doing much of anything let alone blogging. I don't know what it has been with this summer! I had a huge sinus infection in June. And in August, the kids and I have been sick. I am so glad that all this yuckiness is over. Luckily Aaron didn't get sick at all, but then again he never really does.

Well, Theatre School is over and so is Teague's first "Learn to skate" session, he will start up again in a week or so. I will be doing a post about Piper's performance day at Theatre School. I will also be doing a post about the Park City Kimball Arts Festival, a Salazar Family tradition. So please be patient and keep checking the blog!

Learn to Skate

Teague had his first skating lesson today. Since Teague wants to play Hockey, he needs to know how to skate.

It was the cutest thing EVER! Teague is the only boy in his class, there are five girls, he likes that idea. They marched like soldiers, held their arms out like airplanes, played "head, shoulders, knees and toes,"put stuffed animals in buckets, pushed the buckets around and fell down and had to get up all by themselves.

When her first got out onto the ice, he was a little nervous and held the teachers hand the whole time, but as soon as all the girls were out there with him, there was no holding the teachers hand. When they were pushing the buckets around, Teague didn't even fall once! When he pushed his bucket to the other side of the ice, he yelled at the top of his lungs so everyone could hear (of course), "I did it!" He really loved to stand there and hold his arms out like an airplane. I am such a proud momma! But the best part of all was when it was all over, he skated over to me with absolutely no problem, not even a little wabble!

GO TEAGUE!! You will rock at hockey!

Theatre School

Well, Piper started Theatre School today, and Teague started his skating lessons.

We took Piper up to the West Institute by 9:00, I stuck around to make sure everything was okay and for some notes that Zack gave the parents. Piper was so excited, she is in the "Green Company" with all the other six year olds. She is especially happy because Erin is her teacher. Erin was the stage manager for "Honk!" and another friend from Honk!, Isabella, is also in her class. The t-shirts this year are pretty cool, here's a couple pictures;
It was another surreal day for me. It seems like whenever I go to the West Institute or the Babcock Theatre, I feel like (I've said it before and I'll say it again) I need to bust out into song and dance. Anyway, back to Piper! She wore her t-shirt from last year for the first day, she looked very cute, a lot of the kids were wearing previous years shirts. She has four classes; Musical Theatre, Stage Craft, Stage Movement and Dramatic Arts. Last year her class did "The Giving Tree" for their final performance, this year her class will be doing "The Rainbow Goblins.", Piper will be a yellow goblin.

If you click on this link, there is a picture of Piper in "The Giving Tree" standing on a block holding up a leaf. She is in blue and pink. It is toward the bottom of the page.

I am so proud of my little Piper. I am so happy that she has such a love for performing, and I hope it stays with her forever. She has absolutely no fear of performing, she doesn't even get nervous at auditions. She already asking me if she can do the winter after school youth theatre. Oh how I love my little actress.

Underdog

My parents and I took the kidlets to see "Underdog" on Saturday afternoon. It was cute. I sat next to my dad, and I heard him chuckle a few times. When the movie was over they showed a "gag reel" So, ever since Saturday afternoon, Teague has been wandering around saying "There's no need to fear, Underwear is hear.......did I just say underwear?" He thinks it's hysterical, but unfortunately, it's getting a little old. It's a good thing he is so cute.

Need suggestions!

I am hoping I can get some help from all of you! I am wanting to introduce my kidlets to some of the old Disney Classics that we grew up watching. I was at Blockbuster last night and the gentleman in front of me was renting "The Apple Dumpling Gang" Instantly a flood of memories came to mind about this classic! Tim Conway and Don Knotts give such a hilarious performance, just thinking about the two of them makes me snicker, the cute Bradley Orphans finding the gold nugget, I love this movie... not to mention my high school sweetheart and I shared a kiss during this movie. My kidlets already love "The Gnome Mobile," So I can imagine that they will love all the other classics.
Here is where you come in...if you can think of any Disney Classics that my kidlets might like, or that you like, please leave a comment listing them, and maybe a brief description of the movie. I will add it to the list that you will soon be seeing on the Blog. As my kidlets watch the movies, I will let you know whether or not they liked them.
Thanks in advance.
