Hip Hop

After months of begging - but only a couple of weeks after signing him up - he finally started!

I found a class for just boys at Dance Impressions!
Thanks Kandee!

Tonight was his first class, and he loved it!

When we were driving home, he said,

"I'm gonna do the 'cool walk' for the girls at school tomorrow!"

First day of school

I realize that I am a little late on this post.

I have a feeling that I may be a little less active on the blog due to school, but I will try as hard as I can.

But, here they are! Aren't they cute?

Piper 5th grade

Teague 2nd grade

One of the disadvantages of having an east facing house is that the first day of school pictures are always funny because my shadow is in the picture and the sun is in their eyes!

Is he okay?

One day back in May when I went into Teague's classroom to pick him up
(I was at the school directing a play for the fourth graders, but Teague didn't know - I didn't want him to walk out back and wait for me when I was right there)

The substitute teacher asked me,

"Is he okay?"

To that I responded,

"Oh no! What happened?"

"He's just so small! He's so much shorter than everyone else! Is he drinking his milk?"

Um...what?
"He is fine. His being short has nothing to do with whether or not he is drinking his milk. He's growing fine. His doctor is not concerned and neither am I. AND, it doesn't bother him! He has the personality to make up for it."

More recently, in July, I was sitting on the bleachers watching both kidlets play hockey, when one of the moms (that I've known for awhile) turned to me and said,

"So...is Teague EVER going to grow?"

Again...
Um...what?
"Actually, he is growing. Just in the last four months he has grown about 2 inches."
"He just looks so little out there on the ice compared to everyone else! Has his doctor run any tests?"

Seriously?

Actually, since he is growing just fine and he is 'on' the charts, he isn't worried and neither am I! Besides, it doesn't bother Teague at all, so why should it bother me?"

Honestly people!! Look at him! Yes, he is short. But, there is obviously NOTHING wrong with him. He is proportionate and coordinated and everything else that leads to the conclusion of *normal.*

I DO NOT want Teague's height to become an issue. As of yet, it has not been. So please help me by NOT MAKING IT ONE!

I might just be

The meanest mom ever.

Actually, I've been told that I am several times, but I don't think they said that I was this day.

I told them that if I was going to pay for them to climb the rock wall,
they better climb to the top

because I didn't want my money wasted.

Okay, so a couple of years ago I paid for them to climb a rock wall and they climbed like a foot. I was mad. I didn't want it to happen again...

They climbed to the top!

I was proud!

I was not mad!

My money was not wasted!

YTU post...mostly pictures!!

I will try not to bore you with an entirely too long of post, but I will entertain you with some pictures.

YTU was awesome this year! It was so fun that both kidlets were able to be in the pre-teen session.

Both kidlets made some new 'bff's'.

And, both kidlets still have the same 'bff's' as usual.

YTU friends are truly the BEST!

Here is Piper as 'Strength' in 'Everyman.' She was FANTASTIC!

Here is Teague in 'Jack and the Beanstalk' during 'Killer' sung to 'Thriller.' He was HYSTERICAL! Here, he is shimmying!

(sorry about the head)

The last night of performances was hard. Here they are doing the theme song.

Here they are with the one and only Penny, the Artistic Director of YTU.

And, here is some crying that went on and on and on and on and on...

He is my sleeper...

They get to Theatre School at 9:00 in the morning.

I pick them up at 3:30.

This

(the sleeping, not the mask wearing)

has happened everyday - so far - on the way home!

He works so hard and has so much fun that he is worn out!

He made the mask in "Stage Craft," and didn't take it off until he woke up when we got home.

Think Globally, 'Act' Locally

That is the theme this year for Theatre School.

It started yesterday.

The kidlets were so excited...especially Piper! Teague was too, it's just that waking up at 7:00 in the morning isn't easy for him (remember, he's mine).

When we got there, we found out what companies they were in.

Teague is in Yellow Company, the youngest Musical Theatre company. It ends up they will be performing "Jack & the Beanstalk."

Teague is also in "Acting for Film & TV" and "Stage Craft."

Piper is in Black Company, the Advanced Acting company. She auditioned on Friday and found out Monday morning that she made it. She worked so hard on her monologue and when she performed it for me before we left the house, she was amazing, so I am going to assume that she was amazing at her audition. They will be performing "Everyman."

Piper is also in "Musical Theatre - Jazz emphasis" and "Stage Make-up."

Teague didn't audition for Black Company, this is his first year in the pre-teen session, so he might - if he wants to - next year.

Then they were off!

I normally don't go in, I normally just drop them off, but for some reason, I did go in this year.
It was fun to watch all of the excited children! There are 173 of them this year...that's a lot!

I remember being that excited for Theatre School...I still get excited for Theatre School...

I have another child...

...I know exactly where he came from,
ME!
We are SO much alike.
Except, I don't have that fabulous sense of humor.

Anyway, this child of mine?

He's SEVEN

Yes, SEVEN!

SEVEN SEVEN SEVEN SEVEN SEVEN SEVEN SEVEN SEVEN SEVEN SEVEN SEVEN SEVEN SEVEN SEVEN SEVEN SEVEN SEVEN SEVEN SEVEN SEVEN SEVEN SEVEN SEVEN SEVEN SEVEN SEVEN SEVEN SEVEN SEVEN SEVEN

Again, I understand that he doesn't look SEVEN! I understand that he looks about five. I promise, he is SEVEN and he is a completely normal SEVEN year old, he's growing fine!
(even though some people feel like it is their responsibility to tell me otherwise)

Let me tell you a little bit about this incredible boy!

*For some reason, some time during the past year, his favorite color is no longer Orange (I won't lie, it makes me a little sad), but BLUE, dark BLUE or bright BLUE.

*He's very thoughtful when it comes to his family. He tries SO hard to save his last three pieces of candy for Aaron, Piper and me. It usually ends up with just half a piece for the three of us to share. (I'm telling you, he is SO mine, but I wouldn't even try to share, I'd just eat the candy)

*He is SO stubborn. I love this about him, but I hate it too, because I know where he got it from and I know what can happen when you are stubborn.

*His focus amazes me. Once he starts something, he has to finish it. He gets SO frustrated when he is in the middle of something and we have to go somewhere or do something. This is especially true with legos and his inventions.

*He is an amazing inventor! Give him a bunch of crap and he will be occupied for hours inventing. When I say crap, I mean tape, especially tape and anything he can tape up.

*He may be stubborn and focused, but he has a very laid back personality, which I love about him, he doesn't take anything too seriously...that is until he steps on stage.

*His ability on stage is something all actors strive for, however it comes naturally for Teague, while most actors train for years.

*This kid doesn't just giggle or smile at something that is funny. It is a full-on HUGE belly laugh! If it's funny - even just a little bit - anybody within the vicinity will know. And anybody within the vicinity will also be laughing. It is so fun to take him to the movies.

*He is such a good kid. He is so respectful to grown-ups. And apparently is is extremely well behaved when I'm not around, he seems to understand completely that there is a time and a place for everything.

*He is hysterical. If you know him at all, you know this.

*AND, those cheeks!

For his birthday he wanted a late night. He had seven friends come over in their jammies for pizza, cake and ice cream. We played games and watched a movie. It was Iron Man themed. And, I'll tell you what. Boys are VERY different than girls (we did a late night for Piper's 7th birthday). It was SO fun, but I was glad when it was over.

Teague has some really great friends.

Teague brings such joy to our family. Not a day goes by with him around that you don't smile and laugh, even it's just smiling because he is so stinking cute.

I LOVE YOU TEAGUE!

Suor Angelica

Trust me, I totally realize that I need to do some posts, and now that school is out, I promise, I will! I was just SO INCREDIBLY BUSY, that I couldn't even believe it...but more on that later.

Right now, I just want to give you the information for "Suor Angelica," the Opera that Teague is participating in!

It opens on Saturday, this

Saturday May 15, 2010.
Monday May 17, 2010
Wednesday May 19, 2010
Friday May 21, 2010
Sunday May 23, 2010

Showtime is 7:30 except for Sunday, the matinee is at 2:00

Teague is the "Super Child." Don't let the name deceive you, seriously...it's sad. He is only in for a couple of minutes at the end, but he is fantastic. So is the Opera.

WOULD YOU FREAKIN' CLEAN YOUR FREAKIN' BEDROOM?!?!?

I guess this is what I deserve for asking him so politely!
(TRUST ME, I did ask politely about a billion and nine times before)

(His Jack Skellington Comforter was being washed, so he borrowed mom's college quilt)

It ends up that this isn't actually all of his dirty clothes and toys hidden under blankets!

It is his fellow aliens...sleeping!

Because, only aliens are allowed in his bedroom!

Graham Cracker Houses

On Monday, we made Gingerbread houses. I forgot to take action shots, but here are the finished products.

Only the Salazar kidlets would think to make bathrooms/outhouses...

Teague's

(that's a toilet in there)

Piper's

(that's Santa sitting on the toilet)

(notice the moon on the outhouse door)

Mine

(I did not make a bathroom or an outhouse - for the record)

YTU Winter Performaces

I know that you all know my feelings about YTU,

so I won't bore you.

BUT...

I will say, they did such a good job, I am so proud.

Teague's class did
"Joseph had a little overcoat."

Piper's class did
"What goes on in here?"
A collection of Shel Silverstien poems.

These are pictures of them with their teachers

and one with Penny, the artistic director of YTU.

Oh, and just a little side note... Teague DOES have a fat lip in these pictures. After the performances he thought it would be funny to tie his scarf around his ankles. Needless to say, he fell flat on his face!

Umbilical Hernia

I was born with one, BUT, of course my mother took NO pictures! Heaven for bid her child is born with a birth defect, that she actually has proof of! She use to tape a fifty-cent piece over it so it wouldn't poke through my clothes. I had mine fixed at nine months. Apparently the doctor told my mom that when I was an adult it would look like a Rose Bud...Trust me...it doesn't. It looks sorta like the top of a deflated balloon. And, I have a cute little scar underneath my bellybutton from the surgery.

Piper was born with one. We took pictures, it was cute.

(taken the night before surgery)
She had hers fixed when she was three. Insurance considers it cosmetic after three, and her doctors said that if it didn't fix itself by then, it wouldn't. It looks really cute, almost like a normal bellybutton. She doesn't even have a scar.

(Sorry about the crappy picture)

Teague was born with one. We took pictures, it was strange.

(taken the night before surgery)
Teague's was much bigger than Piper's. When he was one, I was holding him and noticed that it was hard, so I called the doctor to see if that was normal...it wasn't. He informed me that what was happening was called strangulation and he needed the surgery right away. He had it shortly after that. He doesn't really have a bellybutton, his was so big, the surgeon kinda had to cut it off and sew his tummy together, so he has a straight scar for a bellybutton, it's cool.

(Again, sorry about the crappy picture)

I have to say, and I think Aaron will agree, that I miss those bellybuttons! They were SO fun to play with, so soft. And...they made GREAT noises when we squeezed them.

All the doctors said that it isn't hereditary/genetic. But I honestly question that!

Here's a link if you are interested, it's very short and easy to read.

When people ask me or my kidlets if we have innies or outies...well, we can't really answer because we have neither!
